In Ireland new car sales were up one third in January. This is 33.6% higher than the previous year.
During the month of January almost 40,000 new cars were registered with 161 number plates, this is according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.
The most popular brand for January was Hyundai followed by Toyota and Ford.

- Toyota – 4,852
- Ford – 4,383
Volkswagen was the fourth most popular, Nissan was fifth and Renault was in sixth place.

- Ford Focus
- Toyota Corolla
- Ford Fiesta
- VW Golf
- Skoda Octavia
- Toyota Yaris
Audi was the most popular brand in the “premium” market followed by BMW and Mercedes.
In 2015 124,945 new cars were sold – this was an increase of over 30% to the 96,284 new cars sold in 2014.
The only brands who have experiences a decline in sales were:

- Subaru
- Seat
- Porsche
