A Polestar 3 SUV has officially entered the Guinness World Records after covering 935 kilometres on a single charge, setting a new benchmark for electric vehicle endurance.
The achievement came during a 23-hour drive around southern England, with a team of three professional efficiency drivers from Webfleet, a company that helps fleets cut fuel consumption. The route included a mix of traffic and weather conditions, underscoring the challenge of maintaining efficiency over such a distance.
Unlike typical motorists, the team applied advanced eco-driving techniques to maximise range. These included avoiding harsh acceleration and braking, coasting where possible, anticipating traffic flow, and making strategic use of cruise control. One of the drivers, Sam Clarke, explained to Auto Express that the test mattered more than a laboratory figure: “It’s the closest thing to the real world, on proper roads at proper speeds.”
Clarke also admitted that achieving such results requires discipline. “We’re not suggesting everyone will match these ranges, but we did comfortably exceed the WLTP figures. It shows what’s possible when you drive more efficiently. Even just easing your right foot a few millimetres less each time can add up to significant extra range,” he told Autocar.
The record attempt lasted 22 hours and 57 minutes in mixed conditions, including rain. Over the course, the Polestar 3 delivered an impressive 12.1 kWh per 100 km—a figure normally associated with much lighter vehicles, rather than a 2.4-tonne SUV. Remarkably, the car continued for another 12.8 km after the range indicator hit zero.
The SUV used its extended-range battery, was completely unmodified, and ran on standard 20-inch wheels with Michelin 4 EV tyres. Guinness officials validated the achievement with independent verification, supported by Webfleet’s extensive documentation of odometer readings, GPS data, video evidence, and battery-level tracking.
